Yaris Cup field thrills at the Sachsenring 25th June 2005 Philip Geipel succeeded in increasing his lead by winning twice, at the Sachsenring. Isolde Holderied was thrilled by both his performance and the circuit. With eight rounds of the Yaris Cup completed, Philip Geipel has a massive 124 points to his credit. At the Sachsenring, he once again proved his skills by defeating his rivals. However, Sunday’s round turned out to be anything but an easy task, for the championship leader. For 15 laps, Swiss driver Raffi Bader pressurised Geipel, but at the end of the day he couldn’t find a way to pass the 18-year old race leader. In the first round of the weekend, Geipel and Bader finished first and second respectively. In race one, Swen Landgraf secured third place, while Steve Kirsch joined Geipel and Bader on the podium of the second round. “It was a very exhausting race, with Raffi pressurising me from the start to the finish line,” said Geipel. “But at the end of the day I succeeded in keeping him in check. To win both rounds, this weekend, has been a fantastic experience.” Once again, Yaris Cup tutor Isolde Holderied was on site and praised the winner: “Philip and Raffi delivered a thrilling battle,” said the Toyota Brand Ambassador, “with Philip keeping his cool and succeeding in withstanding the pressure in fine style. The Sachsenring resembles a rollercoaster, thus representing a true challenge for the drivers. We have experienced a great motor racing weekend.” While the Sachsenring event was a home race for many drivers on the grid – among them Geipel and Kirsch – the Dutch drivers are already looking forward to the next round, held at Assen in the Netherlands (9th/10th June). For six male and female drivers on the Yaris Cup grid, the race in Assen will be their home event. |
