Exciting duel at the Nürburgring

4th August 2005

While Philip Geipel extended his lead in the 2005 Toyota Yaris Cup last weekend, the fight between rapper Smudo and Toyota Germany’s vice president, Markus Schrick, electrified the crowds.

Rounds 11 and 12 of the Toyota Yaris Cup were held at the Nürburgring. Under the watchful eyes of Isolde Holderied, Geipel succeeded in winning the first race of the weekend. Race 2 had to be stopped after ten laps due to starting rainfalls. Raffi Bader took victory from Geipel, who is now leading the championship with 178 points.

However, in the focus of interest was a duel in the middle of the field: Toyota Germany’s vice president, Markus Schrick, and Smudo, singer of the German hip hop band, “Die Fantastischen Vier”, delivered exciting racing in both rounds. In race 1, Schrick finished ahead of Smudo, race 2 saw the musician taking chequered flag ahead of his rival.

"It was good fun to watch the two," said Isolde, "They were both pushing hard. However, their fight was fair all the time. That’s what motorsport is all about." The Toyota Yaris Cup continues at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz on 13 th/14 th August.
