Participants of the 2006 FULDA Challenge selected

5th October 2005

Last weekend, Sulden am Ortler ( Austria) saw the qualifying event for the 2006 FULDA Challenge. More than 70 athletes tested their limits.

The FULDA Challenge, which will take place in Canada’s Yukon Territory in February, is a fascinating competition in the Arctic cold. Last weekend, the participants in next year’s unique event were selected from the many hopeful applicants. Eight demanding disciplines – e.g. a semi-marathon, steep face climbing and an ATV race - were on the agenda.

FULDA brand ambassador, Isolde Holderied, had prepared a special off-road track that had to be mastered by the sportswomen and sportsmen in a Toyota Landcruiser. The task, on the challenging track, 2,300 metres above sea level, was simple: Don’t touch the barriers over the course of the 800 metres circuit! “I’m convinced that the off-road event was good fun for the competitors,” said Isolde, "Obviously it was no easy track to drive, however, everybody did a very good job."

On Sunday, the FULDA Challenge aspirants got a taste of the conditions in the Yukon Territory, when it suddenly started snowing. In February, 2,500 kilometres between Whitehorse and Dawson City were covered. Again, this will be a race against time, the cold and the personal limits of the participants.
