Geipel wins 2005 Toyota Yaris Cup

10th October 2005

The season's finale of the 2005 Toyota Yaris Cup was a tough one. Philip Geipel finally asserted himself against his opponents, finishing with 224.5 points to his tally. Isolde Holderied was full of praise.

Prior to the final races of this year's Toyota Yaris Cup last week-end, four drivers still had a theoretical chance of winning the championship title: overall leader Philip Geipel, Swen Landgraf, Christiaan Frankenhout and Sanra van der Sloot. By winning the first race and finishing third in the second, Geipel secured the title. Landgraf finished second in this year's championship (197.5 point), while Frankenhout finished third (192).

"Congratulations to Philip," said Toyota brand ambassador Isolde Holderied, 'With seven wins this year he deserved the title. We have seen many thrilling races, including the season finale. Although the stakes were high, things were fair. All in all, if was a fantastic season.'

In addition to the championship title, Geipel also secured first place in the junior rankings. Van der Sloot was the best female driver in the field and finished fourth in the overall standings. Isolde said, 'Sandra, too, can be proud of what she achieved. In Oschersleben, it was not enough to climb to the top spot, but fourth position overall is an excellent result, indeed.'
