Exciting start to the Toyota Yaris Cup

Last weekend, the new Toyota Yaris Cup season kicked off in Oschersleben. Isolde Holderied was on site and supported and assisted the talented young drivers during the first of the seven race weekends.

30 young drivers entered the sixth edition of the Toyota Yaris Cup in Oschersleben on 22 nd and 23 rd April in the Motosport Arena, 13 of which attended the popular junior talent series for the first time. Some youngsters even sat behind the wheel of a touring car as the 118bhp Yaris for the very first time.

Christiaan Frankenhout from the Netherlands won the first race on Saturday. He was followed by two German drivers on second and third position: Heiko Hammel crossed the finish line only a few tenths of a second behind Frankenhout, while Benedikt Boeckels managed to secure third place.

For the second race of the weekend on Sunday, the top six drivers entered the race in reversed order, however, no German driver made it onto the podium. The newcomers were, nevertheless, able to impress, and in the end, Nicky Kormelink ( Netherlands) was ahead of Swiss driver Raffi Bader and Frankenhout in second and third place respectively. Following this result, Frankenhout has now taken the lead in the overall standings.

Markus Schrick, vice president of Toyota Germany, is able to look back on a successful weekend as well. He showed strong performances in the practice sessions as well as in both races, and recorded 17 th place on Sunday.

Following the start to the new season, Isolde shares her positive outlook. "Following this convincing start, I am looking forward to a season full of excitement. I can't wait to see how all of these talents develop," said the Toyota brand ambassador.
