Isolde attended the Toyota Yaris Cup at the Nürburgring 29th May 2006 Last weekend, the Eifel circuit was the venue of the 2006 Toyota Yaris Cup season’s rounds five and six. Isolde Holderied was on site to support the young talents. Heiko Hammel and Christiaan Frankenhout won the fifth and sixth rounds respectively, with the Toyota Yaris Cup being held as part of the Beru Top 10 package. In bad weather conditions typical for the Nürburging, 17-year-old Hammel dominated the Saturday race action, took the lead on lap eleven and defended it until having taken the chequered flag. On Sunday, however, Frankenhout crossed the line some eight seconds ahead of the runner-up. Following the Nürburgring weekend, championship leader Frankenhout has got 112 points under his belt, with Hammel (83 points) following in second position. Apart from supporting the Toyota Yaris Cup drivers, Isolde also looked after the guests of Toyota Deutschland. With her know-how, the successful rally driver offered background information on the pit-lane, the paddock and took the visitors to the race control. However, the guests hadn’t to settle for theory alone. At the same time, they also could test their skills behind the wheel, thus putting the motto “Experience Toyota” into practice. At a demanding course, fans and spectators had the chance of testing their driving skills at the wheel of a Toyota Yaris series model. Furthermore, the driving simulator lured many curious visitors to the manufacturer’s action stand. One of the highlights of the event was the ‘sport auto Yokohama Drift Challenge’, held for the first time as support programme of the Beru Top 10 and wowing the fans. Isolde was a member of the jury, just as Horst von Saurma (Chief Editor sport auto), DTM driver Frank Stippler and rally co-driver Dieter Schneppenheim. “It was big fun to witness this event,” revealed Isolde. “It was easy to see who knows to make a car slide and who doesn’t.” |
