Prominent guest racers in the Toyota Yaris Cup 17th July 2006 In the ninth and tenth rounds of the Toyota Yaris Cup, held at the Nürburgring, Isolde Holderied looked after a newcomer: Giuliana Marino, the “Playboy’s 2005 Playmate of the Year”, contested her maiden motor racing event. Past weekend’s Toyota Yaris Cup rounds were held as part of the Nürburgring 1000-kilometre race support programme. Apart from the “Le Mans Series” sports cars, playmate Marino also represented a true eye-catcher. Isolde looked after the 20-year-old during her guest appearance at the Nürburgring and also during the necessary license course held prior to the event at the Bitburg airport premises. Marino, who took to the track in a racing car for the very first time, was happy about the tips and tricks provided by Isolde. However, she wasn’t fast enough to qualify for the races on Saturday and Sunday. “If you haven’t got any motor racing experience it’s extremely difficult to qualify right away in such an event,” explained Isolde. “But Giuliana gave her very best and turned out to be very ambitious.” Apart from Marino, the Nürburgring event was contested by another prominent guest racer: Markus Schrick, Vice President of Toyota Germany, contested the Saturday round but was hampered by gearbox problems. At the same time, championship leader Christiaan Frankenhout again experienced two trouble-free races. The Dutchman (192 points) prevailed in both rounds, thus increasing his lead over currently second placed Heiko Hammel (143) to 49 points. The penultimate 2006 Toyota Yaris Cup weekend will be held from 16 th to 17 th September at Austria’s Salzburgring, with Frankenhout being determined to early secure the title in this event. |
