Cross-country skiing for charity 11th January 2008 This weekend, Isolde Holderied entered unfamiliar terrain, with the sporting aspect not representing the main ambition. The two-time World Rally Champion contested a charity cross-country skiing race, with the revenue being used for social and sports purposes. The charity event was organised by Miriam Vogt, former Alpine Combination World Champion, and Leni Rieppel. The pairing represents the Board of Management of the non-commercial society ‘Schneekristall’ that lobbies for – inter alia – an adoption programme of ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’ as well as the medical-social initiative ‘Klinikclowns’ and the foundation ‘Alliance for Children against Violence’. Together with the likes of former gymnast Isabella von Lospichl and Klaus Rambach, Managing Director of the Bavarian Skiing Association, Isolde contested a cross-country skiing relay held in the ‘Schneekristall Winterwelt’ in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Spa Gardens and competed against numerous other sports persons from the most different disciplines. Prior to the charity event, the competitors attended the Men’s Wold Cup Slalom in the Olympic Ski Stadium. “I agreed to come right after having received Miriam Voigt’s invitation,” says Isolde. “I support the charity activities of the Schneekristall society. And not only because I have got a five-year old son myself. I think that being a public person helps me making an effective contribution to the success of charity activities like this one.” |
